I am far from a cyber security expert but I see the need to learn about, and utilize, a VPN (virtual private network) for many people.
A VPN can make your web surfing and transactions relatively anonymous, throw off ad-tracking, and otherwise make your internet experience more enjoyable and safe.
VPNs route your surfing traffic/data through different servers so it looks like you originate from the location where one of these servers are.
VPN companies each run many servers allowing you to do so.
I am not going to suggest a particular VPN for you to use or review any here, there are myriad other sites which do so.
I simply wanted to point out that any internet user, whoever they are, is targeted by all sort of actors, some are quasi-legit like advertisers who want to provide for you the best advertising for their customers (although you can argue about being inundated with ads), others may be the opposite of legit such as hackers (more specifically crackers) who could be trying to steal from you using ransomware for example.
The point is you never really know who might be watching you online, and could be carrying out actions against you, so why not be better protected?
A VPN, like any security measure, is always far from foolproof but it seems to me it can help a lot as I hope I introduced above.
More to come…
